Chapter 1: The Front Door

Why not start us off with the front door?  Seems appropriate anyway.  Maybe the most underestimated places in the home but surely one of the most important.  It’s the very thing that greets you when you get home, and the eye-candy for the passersby.  It’s also one of the easiest places for a quick makeover that creates a huge impact.  Quick and short money?  Oh yes please. Here is a shot of our front door before this little makeover.  Just like when I was growing up, still welcoming and warm, but the red had faded and no longer matched the side door (sorry not seen in these picks, you’ll just have to take my word for it).  So, I decided to change things up a bit… 232323232fp83232_uqcshlukaxroqdfv366_5_nu=3389__9;_43__WSNRCG=35_;;643_2347nu0mrj Now how would one choose a new front door color you ask?  There are a few apps (here’s one example) out there where you can take a photo of your front door and instantly try out most colors under the rainbow.  I, however, am on a grey kick so I did a little Pinterest surfing or “Pinspiration” as I like to call it for just the right shade.  I decided on Gauntlet Grey by Sherwin Williams.  It’s neutral and really looks nice with my seasonal wreaths.  Here’s the best part:  I bought a small sample size of this color from Home Depot (got it color matched) for all of $4.  Yes, that was plenty to paint my front door – AND side door.  Score.  After the paint had dried, I used a template downloaded from one of my favorite blogs, Jones Design Company (You can download the same template here, for free, yes FREE). She has a great tutorial on how to chalk the back and free-hand paint. Or if you are like me and don’t have a steady hand, use small scissors and cut out the numbers.  Then, take a stencil brush and quickly use the cutout to paint the numbers.  Ta-Da!  Now you’ve personalized your front door and really added some charm.  Your house (and your passers by) will thank you.   Enjoy! Just looking at these pics I’m itching for the spring flowers to come out so I can fill my planter, and man, I really need to spray paint my door handles!  Stay tuned for that.  Thanks for stopping in.  I hope I’ve inspired you to make a small change that will have you smiling each time you drive into your driveway!

    1. Thank you Sarah! The wreath was also a DIY – so easy too…I could actually do a post on it. I got the flowers from the dollar store! Was inspired by a post on pinterest. Can’t wait to see what you’re going to do with your door!
