Christmas Home Tour

This year, above all else, my intention was to make our home feel cozy, and filled with nostalgia around every corner.

Red, green and denim took center stage as my color pallet, as well as every kind of plaid I could get my hands on. Natural greens snipped from our Christmas tree helped to bring life to the faux garlands I’ve spread here and there…and white string lights, well, they practically make everything magical.

Just a few weeks before Christmas, I acquired a few old pieces with the hope to bring them new life. Some had been left by the side of the road; a few others I purchased on Marketplace for a steal. For example, this rattan sofa:

After a hefty cleaning and some new cushions, It now lives in our family room and is by far the coziest place to sit and look outside. You’ll find me here most mornings, sipping a hot cup of coffee.

And just to the right of this sofa you’ll spy an old cabinet we found by the side of the road.

I’m still investigating its origin, so for now I’m just enjoying the character it brings to this room. If you’ve been following along for awhile now, you’ll not be surprised that I love a collected and eclectic look in design….and jump at any chance I can to add a unique piece as an accent or focal point. It never ceases to amaze me what people toss away.

This gentlemen’s chair is my Dad’s. Our kids got the best of it and ripped giant holes in the arms. Instead of giving up and throwing it away, I took an old pair of my jeans and patched it up. It now brings quirkiness and a relaxed feeling to this space. Now if we walk a few feet to the kitchen:

Earlier this spring we covered the range with some spare wood to shade the harsh lights from the hood. +bonus+ by doing so we also created another surface to decorate.

If we take a step back, you’ll see a round table in the corner…

It was a freebie, and looked like this when I brought it home:

After a ton of sanding and some Chippy Barn furniture wax, I brought it back to life:

If we walk around the table we’ll come to this hutch:

It was a find on marketplace and used to look like this before I painted it:

I may end up distressing the white paint to let some of that pretty wood show through.

Next if we turn around you’ll see a cute red cabinet. It was a roadside rescue and I chose to sand the top and paint the base “heritage red” by Benjamin Moore. It brings the red in from the barn out back and I think I’ll keep it red after the holidays.

I think that might be it as far as furniture makeovers go for 2020. I hope you’ll stay tuned for a few more projects I’ve got in store for you in the New Year!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

XO

Kate
