Closet turned Creative Space with Shiplap

Last time my mom visited, she planted an idea in my mind and well, it grew.  You see, we have this closet in the kids’ play room that never really worked properly.  The doors would get stuck and just recently, the shelving gave way to 10 thousand pounds of who-knows-what I’d loaded in there. Yes, it was time for a change:

Off to the phone I went. I ordered 1 sheet of 4×8 Luan ($11) to be cut in 6″ strips (the 4 foot way), then packed up the three kids and headed to Lowes. We were in and out of the store before you could say, “Shiplap.”

I used a nickel to space each strip of Luan, and on my second attempt (yes, I learned the hard way) used a level, then hammered the pieces to the wall.  A few coats of white paint I had on hand (I’ll be honest I always have white paint on hand, sometimes even literally) and it was time to ‘shop’ the house.  I used a ladder from the bunk beds we were gifted recently, some baskets, our outdoor lights, my mom’s old sewing table (which also got a coat of white paint) and a few craft items to style, and we now have a little craft/homework nook:

The kids couldn’t wait to get in there and start creating…

Amazing how a little Shiplap can bring so much character to a space!

Thank you so much for stopping in today,  oh and before I go – some progress is being made on the table/bar/kitchen island in the new family room – so stay tuned for that later this week!
